Congress President addresses a huge rally in Bhagalpur Bihar

Speaking specifically about the pitiable condition of the world famous silk industry of Bhagalpur she said that due to total neglect of the weavers and the artisans, this industry which once had a position of pride of industrial map of the nation is today fighting for survival. Similar sad situation exists in the supply of drinking water to the people of Bhagalpur because of which common people had to suffer from water borne diseases.
She pointed out that due to deplorable power situation all the industries in the area were shutting down leading to huge unemployment in the region.
She said that reality is far from the public postures of the state government. On the issue of underdevelopment they blame the Centre, on ideology they claim liberalism but in reality they partner with communal forces under NDA. To drive home the point she quoted -- "Haathi ke daant khane ke kuch aur, dikhane ke kuch aur". She reminded the people that the current government and the earlier governments have made the lives of people of Bihar miserable for last 20 years and degraded them as laughing stocks with their clowning acts.
She reiterated that Congress Party stands for progress, secularism and aam aadmi. Ever since 2004 when the UPA government came to power in the centre, all the promises made by Congress for the upliftment of the poor, for the betterment of weaker sections and farmers, for empowerment of women, all these have been fulfilled. Significant steps have been undertaken for improvement of healthcare, education, employment.
Congress implemented one of the largest waiver of loans for the farmers. She asked as to why the others did not do it if they so believed in welfare of farmers. She reiterated that under the MNREGS, 100 days employment was being legally guaranteed to all. But Bihar was lagging behind in implementing this scheme also.
Under the Right to Education Act, free education was being ensured by the Central government for all children. Poor children and girls were also being provided scholarships. Mid-day meals were also being provided to children in schools.
She pointed out that the central government had also enhanced the salaries of the Anganwadi workers. To ensure that not even a single person should go hungry she said that a comprehensive Food Security Bill is being worked upon.
Congress President said that Congress party did not believe in politics based on caste, language, or religion. Congress party believed in secularism, development and worked for each and every Indian, for the common man.
She urged the people of Bihar to come out of the narrow-minded politics promoted by divisive forces. She gave a call to the people of Bihar to start a new revolution of progress in the state -- for the bright future of the people, for the bright future of the coming generations, for the bright future of Bihar.
